Gamefest Fested The event is now over. 111 hours of talks over 2 days, 11 tracks, and something like 138 speakers.
There's still some follow-up to do over the next few weeks to write up the postmortem report, get the talks posted to the website with their matching audio files, and helping a bit with Gamefest London, but the event itself is over and done. Despite some brinksmanship, all the speakers showed up (eventually) and did their talks. |

I have a feeling that my subconscious self is going up to people today and saying, "Hello there! Would you like a map of all my buttons?"
Clearly I'm hosting an invitational because people are finding all of them today.
Here's to putting safeties on them. |

Reading After a dinner conversation about books with of_the_woods and ophanim, I realized that I haven't read much recently. I used to be an avid reader, but then work stress and fatigue had me wanting to do nothing more than sit back and play vaguely violent video games. I read the news (local, national, and international) every day at work, because a good secretary should be well aware of the world in which her boss/company operates. I also read my National Geographic magazine every month when it comes in. Other than that, my "to read" pile just keeps growing with good intentions. So, I plucked a book out of that pile for the first time in months. It's Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. I'm pretty sure I won't want to eat at a fast food franchise restaurant again after finishing this book. I'm only halfway through the book and I'm pretty grossed out. Current Mood: Ew! |

So last night was a bit of a day off from what has become the regular grind of life involving heading to the old place, and schlepping things to the new. I enjoyed the last 3 episodes of Deep Space Nine, and finally got to bring closure to a series I started and stopped many years ago. Also got to bring the internets to the spare bedroom/office which means we'll get access to our printers again. This was pretty much the bulk of my existence yesterday evening.
Today, more schlepping. Maybe some cleaning. and time to fix the M*****F***ing futon. And methinks a trip to the pumpkin patch is in order.
In the meantime, I think maybe a dip in the hottub is also in order. I am pathetically sore. |

Love is a Bird, She Needs to Fly My mother is visiting me for a few days. It's finals week here for me, I have one more paper and two exams to finish while she's here but we're still managing to spend lots of time together. Anyway, we saw this film last night: It was beautiful and so sad. India under the Raj with a British businessman, his Indian right-hand man and the Indian housemaid. If it's available down there, I suggest you watch it if only for the scenery. Current Mood: awakeCurrent Music: Madonna - Frozen |

Internet Friend meme If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal. |

"It really looks like home now," she says, looking at the cat5 network cable tacked neatly to the crown molding, running from one end of the house to the other...
Yup... I live with a geek lover. :-) |

I'm in a Juried Show! I just got an acceptance letter for a show that will hang at the Washington State Convention Center downtown from October 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009. This is the first juried show I will be in! The theme is "Only in Washington" and this is the picture they selected: I'm really excited. This venue will be great exposure and, even better, the picture is already framed and ready to deliver! |

snagged from dissimilus This makes me giggle a whole lot. It also makes me wonder if a friend of mine from high school (who has a studio and writes marketing-type music) might be responsible for it. If he is ... I'm not sure whether to applaud or smack him. It's a truly clever idea, at least. |
